Tippmann Turns Electro – The X7 Phenom
Rocking the patented Flex Valve, the latest design of the X7 can now operate in electronic or mechanical mode with a flick of a switch.
This feature is reminiscent of the days of Airguns Designs, a feature found on the E-Mag. It was definitely one of the aspects that set apart the E-Mag when it first came out in 2000. It drew in players that wanted a dependable marker. You essentially have two guns in one, so if the electronics fail or battery dies you can switch to mechanical. Every woods and scenario player can understand the importance of this feature. After all, you never know how long a game is going to last, and no one wants to call themselves out because of a dead battery.
See it in Action
The X7 Phenom is very compact, easy to operate, maintain, and extremely versatile. With all of the upgrade options out there for Tippmann paintball guns, outgrowing the Phenom as a player is virtually impossible. Simply put, you will only outgrow this marker if you lose interest in woodsball.
The Phenom retails for $399, a hundred or so more than the original X7. What you get with the Phenom however is the new Flex Valve, which gives you the benefits of an electro and mechanical paintball gun all in one, and not to mention, the durability of a Tippmann.

I think this is a great marker from Tippmann. I only have one gripe, the price. At $400, I could buy 2 SP1s. They look very similar. The major difference is the mechanical option with the Phenom. Is it worth it?
Good point, the SP-1’s do look very similar and are a fraction of the cost.
If I were in the market for a marker, I think I’d go for the Phenom over a BT TM-7, SP-1, and many others.
But is the Phenom worth it? I think in the end it all boils down to preference. For me I’d rather buy a marker that has all the performance features I want on it right out of the box. I lean more towards quality and performance more than anything else. I’m not much of an electro guy, in fact I’m turned off by markers that have fully programmable boards and 1000 firing options… but I do like to shoot fast every now and then, so with the above said… I would definitely consider paying $400 for the Phenom , it has everything I’m looking for – its simple, efficient, and durable
