Paul Forcier reflects on how the Smart Parts field has closed for good
The gloom of the day was already set in when I heard the online rumor. The downfall of Smart Parts has been floating around the proverbial water fountain for a few years now. So when I heard that All American Paintball Park was closing Sunday I had to go to the field to see for myself.
Unfortunately this is a rumor that turned out to be true. Today I have to announce, with a sad and heavy heart, that one of the greatest fields known to the industry is officially closing today. This day is the end of an era in the Pennsylvania/Pittsburgh

Take this with the closing a few years ago of the excellent outdoor park in Jerome, PA – This is bad news. The park in Jerome closed because !@#$%^ continuously broke into the storage building and burglarized the place blind. The field in Jerome was awesome. It had no less than 10 different configurations for play complete with very good terrain, forts, and even a Korean War vintage helicopter! I began playing paintball in 1987-88 in Buffalo, NY where there was a large industrial park building that was perhaps 200 x 300 feet with former office space. It was very close to what one finds on Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 and the Highrise map. It was excellent because if you could see the player you could probably hit them. The owners owned an outdoor field outside Rochester, NY and used the Buffalo facility almost exclusively during the winter months. One danger of the Buffalo facility was the dreaded frozen paintball. These would shred through nearly any fabric. Of course the “geardos” of the time who had $1,000 rigs would always jack up their pressure after having their guns chronoed. This made for some painful play.
I am afraid that until we can get the economy back on its feet. Paintball will suffer.
