T68 Splitfire – Law Enforcements Favorite Paintball Marker
Its no myth that RAP4 makes incredibly realistic paintball markers - so realistic that not only are the eyes of milsim paintball maniacs on them, but also the military and law enforcement.
Each year there is an award given out to those that introduce an innovative technology that has practical use for Law Enforcement. This year, the RAP4's very own T68 SplitFire was the recipient of the 2009 Innovations Award.
See what Makes the T68 SplitFire So Innovative
As you can see, the T68 SplitFire has what RAP4 calls a Dual Feed System. You can simultaneously switch between using the ammo clip or hopper. When I first saw it I was thinking, "How sweet! You can use First Strike rounds and normal paintballs..." but no, not the case. First off, first strike rounds are made for the Tiberius line of markers, not RAP4, which blows. Secondly, the clip uses normal .68 caliber paintballs, as does the hopper.
Is The SplitFire Practical For a Normal Paintballer?
If you think about it, having a spare 18 round clip to use on top of a hopper isn't really that handy (if your a normal paintballer). What difference does 18 rounds make? I've seen some paintballers say that the clip could be used for better quality paintballs... but whats the point? If your using crappy paint in your hopper and one of those break then guess what, the 18 rounds of "quality paint" in the clip are pretty useless.
Its like having a better sidearm then your primary - it just doesn't make sense.
I Don't Care What You Say, I'm a Normal Paintballer And I Think The SplitFire is SICK...
I guess if you get your rocks off loading a clip, by all means go for the SplitFire. i will say, the marker does have some practical features - it is easily disassembled and built out of quality materials, ANNNNDDD it comes with a 5 year warranty. <--- I like that.
Why Law Enforcement Officials Love the SplitFire
The T68 SplitFire definitely has more practical use for the military and law enforcement. The Dual Feed System makes it easy for law enforcement and military trainees to use two different types of .68 caliber projectiles for different roles in a real life simulation.
For instance, what this means is they can switch to ceramic rounds in the clip if they need to breach a window, and back to pepper rounds in the hopper to mess the people on the other side up.

Or, better yet, when pepper rounds aren't doing the trick you could switch to the clip source and send a couple rubber rounds their way...
Other Possible Military/Law Enforcement Applications
- Police and Military Training - With high velocity options, the SplitFire will ensure that all personnel will remember when they screw up. Simply put, they will leave training with "Welts to remember."
- Riot Control - With many clip/hopper combinations, you can cater your ammo to a specific situation. You can carry less lethal rubber paintballs to deliver a sting no person can deny, and capsaicin rounds to disperse a rioting crowd.
- Not shooting Reed.
A Word of Caution
I like to always enforce though, that less lethal rounds in a paintball marker are simply "less lethal" than other options. A paintball marker in the wrong hands can already be lethal. So... what the heck is a paintball marker loaded with rubber, ceramic, or even pepper balls shooting at over 350 FPS?
When you add these elements to a paintball marker, you put it on a whole different level. While the SplitFire (when used with less lethal rounds) is not as lethal as the FN303, it still should be used with extreme-don't-shoot-anyone-in-"iffy"-parts caution.
In my opinion, "less lethal" could be a paintball marker shooting rubber rounds at 350-400 FPS, anything over 450 FPS is just fack-ing-re-dic-u-lous. Its something else.
If your a law enforcement official, please, turn down your velocity before you shoot me with one of these
I'm a Paintballer, Should I Get The T68 SpitFire?
The T68 SplitFire is without doubt a handy tool for the military and law enforcement, yes, but not all that handy for normal paintball use. I can see how it is highly recommended to enforcement officials, but if you are a paintballer looking for an innovative yet practical marker, your better off spending $399 on an X7 Phenom(or getting a different marker from RAP4) than $475 for the SplitFire.
Still Set On RAP4? Here Are Some Other RAP4 Markers For Sale on eBay
If you are set on getting a marker from RAP4, why not get one for cheaper on eBay. Used or new, it doesn't matter, you can often find better deals than you would if you bought direct. The AK47 and Special Edition Alpha are both markers worth looking into. They look. Beyond. Real.
