The Age Old Question About Paintball… Does It Hurt?
August 14, 2008
If you are thinking about playing paintball for the first time, then chances are you've questioned what it will feel like to be hit. You aren't alone, just about every first time paintballer has pondered this, and just about every paintballer who has ever had the pleasure of answering this question has referenced it to the feeling of being stung, pricked, or pinched, which is honestly the best way to describe it. I'm sure the answer varies from who you ask, especially if you ask someone who is a real B.A. and says you won't feel a thing, which is a huge lie. Technically you will always feel a hit, its just that the huge amount of adrenaline that pumps through your veins while you play keep you from acknowledging any hits you may take.
I've found however, that no matter how many times I explain what being hit by a paintball feels like to a new player, it never ends up being at all what they expected. For some reason they still go into the match expecting to come out with gruesome holes in themselves. As of now I decided I will direct all the new players that ask me what it feels like to this post and make them watch the below video which perfectly depicts what being hit by a paintball is truly like.
You may be laughing, and in awe at what happened in the video, but don't worry, I'll explain. What you just saw was a magnified reaction to being shot by a paintball, the reaction of sheer "surprise," surprise that every paintballer feels after getting hit by a paintball. This video is the best way to explain what it feels like to be shot, in that most players don't really feel anything due to an adrenaline rush, they often just feel "surprised."
There you have it, an age old paintball question finally answered. If you are concerned about pain being a factor for you when playing paintball, hit up my post which covers 10 ways you can reduce the pain in paintball.
