Paintball To Hit the Big Screen

We have paintball magazines, books, small production movies, and T.V. shows. The closest thing paintball has to a true paintball movie is USA's 2004 paintball comedy Blackballed. Since then, few production companies dabled with the idea of making a large scale movie production on paintball, and as of now, things look to be promising.

It seems a "pre-press release" is floating around online. It reports that Paramount Pictures has teamed up with Shanghai Film studios to create a movie based on the paintball game industry. A movie they hope will introduce even more to the worlds fastest growing extreme sport.

The budget for this film has been reported to be $25,000,000, which in retrospect is roughly a quarter of the budget used to make big movies like Universal's The Island, American Gangster, but still more than Lions Gate's Saw II, Fox's The Planet of the Apes, and Dimension's Equilibrium. At this point, just given the budget for the movie, there is no telling how great it could be, but on the bright side, swing or miss it will expose a lot more people to paintball.

It seems that more and more production companies are realizing the profit potential of backing up growing extreme sports. One recent extreme sport to be developed into a feature length film and see a huge boost in popularity is the sport of Mountainboarding. Sales took off for this sport days after it premiered on the Disney Channel.

I'm still waiting for Paramounts official press release which should have much more information on this upcoming paintball movie. They are planning to get started on it sometime in 2009, so we should see more information on it come next year. I'll keep you updated.
