Oklahoma D-Day 2009 Paintball Scenario Recap
Oklahoma D-Day 2009 went fluidly. I say that because I was there, and the only trouble that caused mishaps was the weather that barely caused a dent in the events throughout the week. Granted, plenty of tents were sopping wet (including mine) from the heavy downpour that took place on Tuesday night, but regardless it was not enough to keep the 3,000 players at D-Day from having the time of their lives.
For those of you that hate reading and just want to see which side won the event, here it is... Germans won by a landslide.
Monday - 4 to 7pm was the Battle of Stalingrad. The Allies defended while the Germans attacked. I hate to say this, but the Allies got destroyed... luckily I was playing on the German side for this battle.
Tuesday -4 to 7pm Bridges and Bangalors. Both sides started at opposite ends of the field. The objective for the allies was to blow the two bridges in the middle of the playing field. Volunteer runners from each side sprinted as far as they could to get maximum ground. Allies pushed up the right side, but it was too well guarded, so flanking efforts went to the left side of the playing field. Rangers saved the day and blew both bridges. A torrential rain storm later that night flooded campsites.
Wednesday - 9 to 12am V2 Rocket Mission. I didn't play this event because my gear and paintball clothes were soaked. Instead my group made a trip to Wal-Mart to get heavy duty rain tarps and tent waterproof spray. I'm sure the Allies lost because they sucked...
Thursday - 9 to 11am Airfield Assualt. This battle took place on the Utah Beach field. The objective was to raise both flags on the two poles on each end of the field. 1st Infantry attempted to flank the Germans by going into the woods but epically failed. Towards the end of the game the plan was for 1st Infantry to run into the battlefield from the woods under the cover of smoke. The majority of players that ran in made it, but little was done after that. Germans tried hard to push towards the final flag on the Allied side but were unable to.
On thursday there was also a night game that took place from 9 to 11pm. Allies defended while Axis attacked. Paintball bigwigs like Bob Long and various pro's played this event. Even though there was a LOT of accidental team killing on the Allied side, allies won. Despite fogged masks and poor visibility and the fact I was assigned to a wall that was never attacked, it still was cool to watch the fireworks and battle taking place on the other side of the field. Allies won.
Friday - Awards ceremony and such.
Saturday - Game on. D-Day started at 9am and went to 5pm. 8 hours of the most intense paintball ever. I fought on Omaha beach, and was fortunate enough to not be in the first boat which got cut to pieces. A couple hours later 2 people of the 30 on each boat started to make it off the boat. Hours after that 2/3rds survived. By 2pm allies had pushed past the gun placements and were working on the trenches. By 4pm Allies had made it to the treeline outside of Coleville, only to be warded off by Axis tanks. Germans won the game and the event. I have never been shot so much, or enjoyed being shot so much in my life, it was bittersweet.
The biggest problem was 1st Infantry was throwing smoke but hardly using it. There was one organized push in the beginning through a smoke screen but the majority of players stood around while a few ballsy 1st ID'ers ran up the hill.
Later that morning 1st Infantry commanders finally realized that instead of sending players up the poorly covered left side it was smarter to send them up the right side behind the cover of a slope. Things started to happen, but quickly turned around when again, few 1st Infantry players tried to make anything happen. The biggest thing that happened on the right side was a small group pushed into the cover of the trees from the road and wrecked havoc. I was in that group and after getting out after what I thought to be a game changing move was pissed to find everyone pushing back up on the left side. Needless to say I took a break due to frustration.
D-Day was a fun event. However, after experiencing the weaknesses of the Allied side (poor communication and weak leadership) I think next year I might see if the grass is truly greener on the other side...
If you are planning on playing in Oklahoma D-Day next year then register right away. You may think its too soon to register, but every year prizes are given to the first to register and those that were the 100th, 200th, 300th and so on.

I have heard about Oklahoma 2009 Paintball Scenario, it is great to hear that paintball has such huge following and it is a great platform to participate, who are really interested in paintball sport.
well i was in 1st ID and i have to say that was the worst 1st has ever played. i think it starts with the leadership. BAD BAD BAD leadership. i really started to get pissed when so called generals and such are telling me to push up when they are standing behind me and im in the foremost postion. secondly there were some lazy players in 1st this year. i even caught one guy sleeping in the DZ around 10:00. but it was still fun i was on the first boat that got mowed down. lol. we all skipped out of the boat. i dont know if you remember me but i was the guy wearing all red proto stuff.
ah yeah man, I saw you, I didn’t know you guys skipped out of the boat, haha thats hilarious. I was in Able company, so we didn’t hit the boats until 10:30.
I’m glad you agree about the bad leadership. This was my first year and I just HAD to point out how horrible it was. There were too many times when I was told to push up when the timing was terrible, and when I did push only a couple of us went. During a game one of the generals told me that I couldn’t hit enemy players by longballing… the funny thing was I wasn’t even longballing, they were just that close and I was hitting plenty.
Come d-day it kinda made sense to run up as far as we could despite getting hit to draw attention away from other players (as the generals said). The only thing is, I think that lead to our demise since the Axis just took it as cheating and they themselves started to not go out after getting hit just to get back at us. I heard plenty of the axis players complaining about it back at the camp.
Essentially we pissed off a well defended, larger enemy force, and closed the door even more on our chances for winning.
I’m with ya, despite all the above, it was still freakin fun in the end. I’ll deff be there next year.
Playing for the germans was a lot of fun, the 1st Ninja Airborne kinda just chilled for the first hour or so then when the americans started pushing up the hill we decided to start killing people we were playing the right side of the hill (facing the water) and when people started coming up we mowded faces. In colville we posted up in the stairway window of the wall and there was no chance of getting the flag my gun was shooting 240fps and i was still killing people from our position. After we pushed the americans from colville right after we took the flag it was game over
lol, you probably shot me because I was one of the first people to run up the hill about an hour into the game when we planned the charge.
A couple of points on your recap, mate…
Monday - the Allies lost because they were outnumbered four to one after 1800. When it was even strength, right up to 1800, they had the game in the bag. It was only after half the players (1 ID, 4 ID, Rangers) left the field that it all went to hell. For the vast majority of the game, the Allies were winning, and would have wrapped it up if people had come prepared (paint and air).
Tuesday - the 6 AB blew the Cherbourg bridge, not the Rangers. They were on the east (right) side - the guys making no progress. The Allies destroyed the Krauts in this scenario. The Krauts got pushed all the way back to their DZ twice, and in the end had to have their DZ moved even father back because the Allies were all over them.
Wednesday - The Allies won. Well, I suppose technically there were Allies on both sides cause the Krauts were too few, but in any event, it was the Allied side that took the win, thanks to some ninja-style moves from the CW.
Thursday - actually, the Germans won, with Allied help. The CW got flipped over the Kraut side for this one.
Thursday night game - Was epic. So much fun.
Saturday - It was a much closer game than you are suggesting. The North and South were epic wins for the Allies. 1 ID and Omaha Beach were where the Allies dropped the ball. No points scored for Omaha? Brutal! I agree that there needs to be some leadership changes at the very top, because the battle plan sucked, but the Allied players carrying it out rocked it everywhere except Omaha beach.
Yes the leadership was horrible. All they did was tell me (1st ID) to push up the hill. Got pissed because at one point in the game on the left side the Germans were being pussies and not getting out when they got hit.
Overall the Germans won because they had more people. Im joining the 4th ID next time. At least they did something.
@DDayFanatic - Thanks for the points, this is such a large scale battle it can be pretty hard to know how the battle is actually going on all ends. One thing was for sure, on my end at omaha, the battle was pretty grim.
i was in 1st ID and yes it was fun but when it came to the big day it just sucked. me and some friends plus countless others from Dog Company and able went all the way up the left trail. we made it up into some ditch and the rangers came behind us. then out of nowhere comes fire from behind us….they claimed to be allies and held fire….then when we turned around opened up on us again….what we thought were allies was a german company that went out of bounds and then claimed to be ally all because they were being taken over. bullshit. ruined the game for me. oh and maybe the fact that we tried talkin to refs to sort things out and they said to go somewhere else.
the night game was badass. i loved it. either side would have been fun. but overall….people take the big game way to seriously..at one point on dday i was in a deadzone..i sat down for ten seconds and already had someone in my face to get out there to fight screaming and yelling…thats why we lost…i mean. the games all about having fun isnt it? who cares if we win or not
I was the dude in the blue cookie monster shirt throwing smoke near the end! But seriously, 1st ID leadership was crap, like pure crap. if anyone has any photos of me ypu should send them to godforthemachine@aim.com
well first off, i was German, running with the geisterjagers. the allies actually outnumbered us germans..just want to make that clear because i see some posts here saying we germans outnumbered the allies..not so.
however i did hear in the DZ that the 1st was making charges and not calling themselves out, so the consensus was if they dont call out the germans wouldnt either. you gotta understand though in all fairness, when its happening to you it pisses you off.
plus there was alot of non ball breakage. i know i felt many hits but when i called for a paint check..no bust, so i kept playing. there were a few times where i got hit and just called myself out..it was’nt until later that i realized i was calling my self out and no paint was on me. so i started calling for paint checks after that.
i’m really sorry you guys had a rough go in the 1st. but am really glad its not holding you back from going again in 2010. with the new additions to the field and play they are working on…i think allies will win next year. of course thats just my opinion. but i will still be German cause i love it on the darkside. somebody has to be the bad guys or there’d be noone to fight..lol
have a good 1, see you on the field
Well first off
-germans won monday, wednesday, and thursday.
-germans were actually outnumberd.
-the alleid commanders are realy sore losers.
So basicly were going to have 2010 tacken from germans because allied commanders are going to whine and cry about it to reffs and game courdnators. 1st infantry this year though was pitifull. It was either totaly nerdy dudes dressed in real 1st infantry crap, or burly overweght rednecks, and ocasionally the good player. O and the 6y.o.s were annoying. Omaha is no place for a little kid.
See you guys next year……James.
Sorry James, but I don’t agree. 2010 will not be taken from the Axis regardless of any complaining due to new game cordinator.
And as for whinning, how about some of the Axis’s generals complaining about the Allies reinserting at the airfield DZ because they was scared of being attacked from the front and back of Colleville so they made us go to the DZ behind Colleville.
But, Omaha was a sore point for the day. From what I understand it had very little leadership and no pregame planning.
