Sub Zero Temperatures And Frozen Paintballs
It's always nice to find an extra bag of paint lying around the paintball field. It doesn't happen much, but it is a nice surprise.
This is a post I wrote last year during winter, enjoy!
Today I had to drain out a couple of 9 ounce co2 tanks that I was going to ship so I decided to head on down to the field and empty a bag of paintballs for a practice session. Seems that the last time I did that I left a half empty bag of paintballs, which today I conveniently found under the snow. Despite the near zero temperatures of the frigid winter nights that have been going on for the past week, to my amazement the paintballs were not frozen and still shot decently.
Yes... I had to shoot them, I mean, couldn't waste them, heh.
How could they not be frozen? These were the type of paintballs that you can get for $26 a case, you know the type of paintballs you can get at Wal-Mart, like Monsterballs. You know, the type of paintballs that have shells as thick as soft gel pills and hurt like hell to be shot with (just take a look what a hit to the dome from cheap paint did to Mike from PbTech).

I guess this mishap brings up an important point; it takes a heck of a long time to fully freeze paintballs, which makes perfect sense given that oil is used in the paint mixture, more so in the cheaper paintballs which tend to have a thicker shell and fill.
Good luck freezing those babies.

Hey i was wondering, how long can you keep paint balls in the freezer? Wont they eventually crack? Just curious, thanks
I’ve had paintballs in the freezer for a couple of months. They didn’t crack, they just lost their shape and went oval, that was about it.
