Paintballs
The type of paint your field sells and shoots is of utmost importance.  If you think you can get by with the cheapest of paintballs then you wont be in business long.  This was one of the first lessons we learned, and definitely one of the most important.  You would think that the cheaper the paint the more profit you make, I'm here to tell you... think again.

Air
You'll need to find a RELIABLE source for getting your co2.  You can always purchase an air compressor for HPA tanks, but one thing you probably will not be able to afford, unless you have bookoo bucks, is a co2 system.  You will need to rent tanks.  If you can't find a source that delivers when you need it then say goodbye to potential customers.

Target Customers
What is your fields main target?  Believe it or not, there are types of paintball players that are much more profitable than others.  I like to call them the golden guns.  They not only make you more, but they also are easier going, and generally are less of a hassle.

3 Man Paintball Field
The smallest of all paintball field sizes. 3 man paintball fields can be used for 1v1 matches, 2v2 matches, and 3v3 matches. This is my favorite size as the games are quick and very rarely predictable. In 3v3 matches, even if you are the last player on your team you still have a chance to win, its happened many times before, and it will continue to happen as long as determined paintballers continue to play paintball. 3 man paintball fields can be found for cheap on eBay. If you plan to buy one brand new, expect to pay at least $1500. How many bunkers are on a standard 3 man paintball field? 15 paintball bunkers. The standard size for a 3 man paintball field? 120' X 50'

5 Man Paintball Field
5 man paintball fields for a long time lived in the shadow of the once popular 10 man paintball field format. Now that 10 man play rarely exists 5 man play has exploded. On a 5 man paintball field you can find 23 paintball bunkers, a little more or a little less, 23 however is the norm. Features such as the snake are more predominate on 5 man fields than a 3 man field. The retail price of a brand new 5 man field is around $2500. The standard size for a 5 man paintball field? 150' X 75'

7 Man Paintball Field
The largest standard paintball field around right now. 7 man fields have a whopping 29 bunkers and retail for around $3500. The snake is longer and there are more variations of bunkers on the field. If you are looking for a longer game with much more shooting then this is the field you should be playing on. There is deffinetely much more room for "dissapearing" as it is hard to keep track of every player on the field. The standard size for a 7 man paintball field? 180' X 100'

In these pages, I'm going to tell the real story about starting a paintball field, and paintball store - and for some that think they can make a million dollars in paintball because they "love paintball", I'm going to give you a reality check. Maybe you'll simply learn from this that you should not try to open a paintball field - and that's fine. Or maybe you'll think I don't have a clue - and that's fine too. But I'm going to put it down as I see it.
